6/12 News and Notes

A Note from Paul Johnson, Congregational Chairman

With bold conviction and a heart for ministry the voters of St. John approved a budget which includes a deficit. Additional giving is needed to fulfill the commitments of the HVAC project, salary increases of 3%, and a variety of normal operations for the 2026-2027 fiscal year of August thru July. Each member of St. John is being asked to increase their giving by an average of $30.00 weekly so we can meet our stewardship goals. Praise be to God for passing a budget that lets St. John be committed, courageous, and compassionate in its mission. Pray that we meet our goals according to God’s will. —PWJ

Summer Office Hours

Summer Office Hours will be Monday through Friday, 9am to 11:30am. If you need assistance outside of that time, staff will be available by phone or email.

Please note - due to the HVAC work, most of the school will be off-limits for most of the summer, and the office may need to be relocated. We will communicate any pertinent updates or location changes. Thank you for your patience.

Summer Reading

Be sure to check out our “Free Little Library” located at the S2 door (near the playground). Tell your friends and neighbors and let’s share the joy of reading!

We had so much fun on our Tropical Trek! - The children will sing songs from VBS this Sunday at the 10:45 service to share what they learned this week about how Jesus comes to seek and save. Thank you to all who volunteered to make it a great week for all who attended! We had over 50 children participate and over 20 volunteers! To God be the Glory!

Adult Education

Adult Education meets Thursdays at 7pm. This is specifically offered for those who want to become communicant members of St. John, however, it is open to all. If you would like to join, please contact Pastor Duling.

Staffing Update

St. John is saying a sad goodbye to Mrs. Jamie Belschner. She has been at St. John for five years serving as a preschool teacher. Low enrollment in preschool-3 eliminated the need for a second preschool class for next year, and she declined an alternative position. We pray God’s blessings on her and her future endeavors.

Summer Sunday School

PreK through grade 4 will learn about King David from Vicar Schroeder, meeting in the Kindergarten room. Middle and High School students will meet in the Youth Center and will dig deeper in a study about Christian character and calling, led by Matthew Frick and Andy Barksdale. The adult classes will continue to meet throughout the summer.

If you have an interest in sharing your time by leading a class starting in the fall, please contact Matthew Frick.

The Cupboard is Bare!

Emmaus Food Pantry is reporting a shortage of donations this summer. Demand is especially high for canned tuna, Tuna Helper and other similar boxed meals, and peanut butter and jelly. Please consider picking up a couple extra items on your next shopping trip and place in the grocery cart near the C8 door in the Commons. Thank you for your support!

Missionary Speaker

On Wednesday, July 1, at 630p St. Peter's Lutheran Church - Indianapolis is pleased to welcome the Rev. Dr. Walter Steele to preach for the Festival of Saints Peter & Paul Divine Service, followed by a potluck dinner and presentation on his service in the Philippines. Dr. Steele and his wife, Robyn, serve as theological educator and nutrition educator, respectively, at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Baguio. Please join us in the Divine Service and dinner as we learn about God's work in the Philippines and throughout Asia.
