Church and School Pastor Town HallsChurch and School Pastor Town HallsThere will be town hall meetings on September 29th during education hour in the Sanctuary and October 3rd at 7 pm in the Dwelling Place to share more about this position, the SMP program, and the next steps for St. John.  

The Board of Elders has approved a job description for an Assistant/Associate Pastor of Church and School which is available below.  This position focuses on providing pastoral care to school families and staff in coordination with the Senior Pastor and other staff and leadership.

The elders also agreed that it was best to pursue filling this position through the Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP) Program of the LCMS and have identified Noah Schroeder as the candidate for this program.

Lunch and Learn

Lunch and Learn will meet on Thursday, October 3rd at 11:30 in the Commons. Pizza will be provided, please bring a salad or dessert to share. Our speaker will be Laura VanArendonk Baugh, a St. John alumna who is a dog trainer and author.

Serve at St. John

Board members are needed for the following boards for 2025: Elders, Missions, Trustees,  Stewardship, Human Care and Parish Fellowship. If you are willing to steward some of your time in service to your congregation, please reach out to Doug Pingel or Matthew Frick.

Trunk or Treat

Get ready for a night of fun and fellowship at our Annual Trunk or Treat event! Join us on October 27th from 5-7pm in the Hunter Road parking lot at St. John for an evening filled with festive activities, fellowship, and, of course, plenty of candy! RSVP HERE!

What to Expect:

  • Trunk Decorating Contest: Local families and church members will showcase their creative and family-friendly trunk designs. Come vote for your favorites! Prizes will be awarded for Best Overall, Best Religious Theme, and Most Creative! RSVP and Host a Trunk HERE
  • Pumpkin Decorating Contest: The classes of St. John have decorated pumpkins that will be on display! 
  • Games and Activities: Enjoy a variety of games and crafts for kids of all ages, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
  • Costume Parade: Dress up in your best costumes! We’ll have a fun parade where kids can show off their outfits.
  • Delicious Treats: Beyond candy, enjoy refreshments and snacks will be available for purchase. Each child participant will receive a goodie bag to collect candy along with other fun items!

Men’s Breakfast Bible Study

Men’s Breakfast Bible Study meets the first Saturday of the month at 7:30am. All men of our congregation and/or guests are welcome. Please RSVP HERE to allow enough food for breakfast. We are studying Colossians.

Be a Prayer Partner

The Mission Board will be restarting the Prayer Partner program for our Confirmands. Please prayerfully consider participating in this important ministry to provide prayerful support of our students as they prepare to confirm the faith given to them in Baptism. Please sign up HERE.

LHS Pink Night

September 30 during the JV and Varsity Volleyball matches, starting at 6:00 pm. All cancer fighters and survivors receive free admission and will be honored  between matches. Money raised by t-shirt sales and donations go to Pink Ribbon Connection.

Saints on Stage present All in the Timing

Six absurdly comedic one acts about life, love, loss, and truly bent history, David Ives' All in the Timing is a witty, romantic, absurd, and existentially-minded evening of theatre. First dates, "infinite monkey theorem", the development of a universal language, and living in a world of opposites are just some of the adventures our characters will set out upon.  Join Saints on Stage for this evening of theatrical entertainment October 3 and 5 at 7pm and October 6 at 3pm. Tickets are $8 in advance HERE or $10 at the door. The plays are directed by Matthew T. Frick and LHS 2019 alumna Mollie (Graham) Burrin. All in the Timing is produced through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service,  dramatists.com.


Trunk or Treat 

St. John Youth are hosting the Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 27. We are asking for donations of candy (or stickers, toys, trinkets, etc) to include in a goodie bag for our guests. Please leave donations in the grocery cart in the Commons marked Trunk or Treat, or bring to the church and school office. You may also give monetarily by going to stjohnindy.org/give and designating “Youth Group.”

Food Pantry

We regularly collect and send non-perishable food donations to the Emmaus Lutheran Food Pantry, located near Fountain Square. They have recently expressed the need for the following specific items to help serve their constituents better: peanut butter, squeeze jelly, canned fruit, fruit cups, canned pasta with meat, and toilet paper. Please leave items in the shopping cart located inside door C8. Thank you for your generosity!
