Community Initiative Grant Approved
UPDATE 10/14/16: As St. John moves ahead with the grant program, we will be conducting listening sessions to better understand our community in our congregation before moving out to look at the community around us. These listening sessions are your opportunity to be heard and to work with us as we move ahead together.
A congregation-wide listening session is scheduled for Sunday, November 13th at 9:30 during the Bible study hour. Please stay tuned for updates on this and the other listening sessions as they are planned.

St. John Lutheran is pleased to announce receipt of a grant from the Indianapolis Center for Congregations. The $30,000 matching grant will help us develop our ministry to our community.
The Indianapolis Center for Congregations is a non-profit organization committed to strengthening congregations through resource consulting, educational events and resource grants. The Indianapolis Center for Congregations is funded by Lilly Endowment, Inc.
Over the years, St. John Lutheran Church has been involved in community ministry one day or one project at a time. Our congregation has not had a ministry plan in place to continually meet the needs of our community. The projects that we have done are all making an impact, but not with a strategic plan in place to make a more lasting impression.
Paul Johnson said, "In order to help St. John reach out to our community we are using the guidance of the "Community Ministry Grant" to develop a partnership with our neighbors to minister and become a more active community builder. The program will be a true partnership not just a sponsorship."
St. John Lutheran Church's long term goal is to continue living out in more intentional ways the last part of our mission statement at St. John - to Project God's love into our communities and world through caring and sharing. Through education, training and prayer we will learn how to come together on a congregational approach for Community Ministry. Together we will work outside the walls of our building.
In the coming months, there will be many ways to get involved. In the meantime, we ask you to be praying for our congregation and our community and ask that you consider being a part of this exciting journey.
