July 3 News and Notes
Want to take the next step?
Everyone who receives Communion at St. John has gone through Catechesis, a deep dive into the Faith, which God teaches us through Holy Scripture. We have Catechesis available for YOU, if you would like to join us in the Lord's Supper, or if you just want to get in on some amazing discussions! We are meeting at 5:30 on Tuesday evenings in the Commons. Bring any questions to Pastor Duling
Summer Office Hours
The church and school office is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00-11:30am throughout July. Staff are available by appointment, phone, and email outside of those times.
Men’s Breakfast Bible Study
Will meet Saturday, July 5, at 7:30 am in the Teacher Workroom. Join us as we read and discuss the book “Why Men Hate Going to Church.” Please RSVP to Rich O’Brien.
Calling All Musicians
Our praise band team is looking for additional musicians to add to our New Song services. We are especially in need of a drummer, but other instruments and vocalists and all ability levels are welcome! Please contact Abbie Stancato, or speak with him before or after the service.
Summer Sunday School
Children PreK–4th grades meet in the Kindergarten room, exploring the Bible’s big baptism stories using The Action Bible! Our summer theme focus will discover what it means to be God’s own baptized children, building reading confidence through engaging storytelling, joyful singing, and memory work centered on Romans 6:4.
Students in grades 5-12 are invited to study the Sunday lessons and our life in Christ in the teacher workroom.
GriefShare
St. John’s GriefShare ministry will be offering a 13-week course Tuesdays from 6-8pm beginning June 17. GriefShare is designed to provide a place of support and practical help for those who have experienced loss from the death of a loved one. The class will meet in the music room, please enter through door C9. For more information visit griefshare.org or call the church office.
50 Years of Lutheran High School
Next fall will begin the 50th year of Lutheran High School. God has definitely blessed our school and families! In order to fully appreciate our past, while also looking forward to our future, if you have any memories or reflections you would like to share, please send them to Kathy Anderson.
Ministry Moment - Youth Gathering
July 18-24, 14 youth and 4 adult chaperones from St. John will travel to New Orleans to take part in the LCMS Youth Gathering, along with over 20,000 others from our church body. The Gathering is an opportunity for our young people to learn and grow in faith through interactive and immersive experiences, Bible study, educational sessions, and worship. We are thankful for the support of St. John in helping make this opportunity possible for our youth. There will be a brief service of sending in both services on Sunday, July 13. Please continue to lift up and encourage the youth of our congregation!
Lutheran Summer Music Camp
July 14-18, Grades K-12
Hosted by St. Peter’s Lutheran Church
Mites for Missions
Every first weekend of the month, the Lutheran Women in Mission collect “mites” (offerings) in the form of loose change, cash, and checks, which are put toward funding missions around the world. As the LWML convention has concluded, look for information about the mission grants to be funded over the course of the next two years. St. John has an active LWML chapter. For more information contact Nancy Steele.
“For they all contributed out of their abundance, but out of her poverty she gave all she had to live on.” —Luke 21:4
St. John Garden Club
There is a small but dedicated group of St. John members who enjoy tending to the landscaping around the church and school to keep it looking great. They are looking for a few more people who would be willing to help. The commitment could be minimal, at your own pace, and it could even be done as you’re leaving church or other activities at St. John. If you are interested, please contact Michael Collins. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Lakeview Request
Help complete the next village at Lakeview! Lakeview Ministries is seeking adult volunteers to help with the construction of the sixth village at Lakeview Villages. Whether you’re part of a church trustee board, small group Bible study, a group of young adults, or simply someone with a heart for serving the Lord, you’re invited to pitch in. To learn more or sign up contact Pete Bolden.
Hands and Feet List
Be the hands and feet of Jesus! We are compiling a list of members of our community who would potentially be able to assist members as needs arise. This could be helping with shopping, cleaning, repairs, making meals, or other tasks needed due to injury, illness or other time of need. If you would be willing to be made aware of needs such of these, and would be able to help out occasionally, please contact Matthew Frick.
