June 13 News and Notes
Want to take the next step?
Everyone who receives Communion at St. John has gone through Catechesis, a deep dive into the Faith, which God teaches us through Holy Scripture. We have Catechesis available for YOU, if you would like to join us in the Lord's Supper, or if you just want to get in on some amazing discussions! We are meeting at 5:30 on Tuesday evenings in the Commons. Bring any questions to Pastor Duling. The class will not meet Tuesday, 6/17.
Summer Office Hours
The church and school office will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00-11:30am throughout the summer. Staff are available by appointment, phone, and email outside of those times.
THANK YOU
THANK YOU to all who helped make our VBS a great week to go on an adventure and learn about Jesus! Over 50 children attended and 20 teens and adults helped. The children will sing in the church services on Sunday. We are also continuing to collect peanut butter, jelly, and cereal for the Emmaus food pantry. We thank God for the opportunity to share the Good News with our community! Hooroo!
Summer Sunday School
Children PreK–4th grades meet in the Kindergarten room, exploring the Bible’s big baptism stories using The Action Bible! Our summer theme focus will discover what it means to be God’s own baptized children, building reading confidence through engaging storytelling, joyful singing, and memory work centered on Romans 6:4.
Students in grades 5-12 are invited to study the Sunday lessons and our life in Christ in the teacher workroom.
GriefShare
St. John’s GriefShare ministry will be offering a 13-week course Tuesdays from 6-8pm beginning June 17. GriefShare is designed to provide a place of support and practical help for those who have experienced loss from the death of a loved one. The class will meet in the music room, please enter through door C9. For more information visit griefshare.org or call the church office.
Grant Received
St. John Lutheran School has received a grant from the Lilly Endowment in the amount of $88,000. This money will be put toward purchasing new reading curriculum, as well as other school needs not provided for in the budget. We give thanks for the staff and volunteers who put in the work to make these funds available to our St. John students.
Lutheran Summer Music Camp
July 14-18, Grades K-12
Hosted by St. Peter’s Lutheran Church
Emmaus Food Pantry
Thank you for continuing to support their community with your non-perishable food items and other essentials, which can be dropped off in the grocery cart near the courtyard.
St. John Lutheran,
Once again you arrive with nearly 100 food items, hygiene items, and moral support from your two delivery persons right when we needed it. We were at the bare minimum, and our shelves were almost empty. It’s definitely a team effort supported by Godly team members and sister congregations.
Blessings! - Julie, Emmaus Food Pantry
Hands and Feet List
Be the hands and feet of Jesus! We are compiling a list of members of our community who would potentially be able to assist members as needs arise. This could be helping with shopping, cleaning, repairs, making meals, or other tasks needed due to injury, illness or other time of need. If you would be willing to be made aware of needs such of these, and would be able to help out occasionally, please contact Matthew Frick.
