Katie Luther Opera

St. John Lutheran Church to Host Katie Luther: The Opera on November 7
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — St. John Lutheran Church invites the community to experience Katie Luther: The Opera, a one-woman opera bringing to life the remarkable story of Katharina von Bora, the wife of Martin Luther, on Saturday, November 7, at 6:30 p.m. Admission is offered through a free-will donation, making this special evening of music, history, and storytelling accessible to all.
Often remembered as the wife of the influential Reformation leader Martin Luther, Katharina von Bora was a remarkable woman in her own right. A former nun who left convent life in 1523, she eventually married Martin Luther and became a mother, household manager, and trusted partner in the life and work of the Reformer. Her story offers a compelling glimpse into the personal side of the Protestant Reformation and the woman behind one of Christianity’s most influential figures.
Through expressive music and dramatic storytelling, Katie Luther: The Opera invites audiences to see the Reformation through Katharina’s eyes. The opera, composed by Glenn Winters, explores three significant stages of her life, from her years as a young nun to her life as a wife and mother and, finally, her reflections on faith and family after Martin Luther’s death. The result is an intimate portrayal of a woman whose courage, convictions, and enduring faith helped shape her place in history. The performance will feature the talents of Soprano Kathryn Peperkorn and pianist Renata Peperkorn. Lyrics and music are by Glenn Winters.
Whether you are passionate about Lutheran history, enjoy live music and the performing arts, or simply want to discover a fascinating story you may not have heard before, this performance offers a meaningful evening for the whole community.
St. John Lutheran Church welcomes members, neighbors, and visitors of all backgrounds to attend. A free-will donation will be collected at the door to support the event.
