St. John Lutheran Church has always put an emphasis on children and learning in a Christian environment. In fact, St. John Lutheran School started the day after the first church service in 1852 in a log cabin church and a one-room schoolhouse. 

Many things have changed since then, but one thing that remains constant is St. John Lutheran's love for children and wanting the best for their education. Because of this love, St. John Lutheran Church opened Little Wings Childcare in August 2005 and is now celebrating its 10th year.

Since opening its doors in August 2005, Little Wings Childcare has grown from five students and one director to a staff of 15 currently caring for 35 children ranging from ages six weeks to five years old. Because of Little Wings commitment to children, their staff to child ratio is drastically lower than the state's requirement. The state requirement for 2 years olds is 1 worker to 7 children, Little Wings ratio is 1 staff to 4 children and the state requirement for 3 years old is 1:10 and Little Wings is 1:7.  

Kathleen Brandt has been the director of Little Wings Childcare since 2005. Kathleen set out to be a junior high literature teacher, but she said the first time she taught in an early childhood classroom with 4-year-olds in New Palestine she knew the Lord changed her teaching path. "I fell in love with early childhood. God has truly blessed me with not just a career but a "life path" in teaching young children and their families about Jesus."
