National Youth Gathering 2019

2019 National Youth Gathering

Every three years, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) holds a National Youth Gathering for youth ages 14-19. Over 25,000 youth and their adult leaders gather together for five days in a designated city. While there, the youth get to participate in Mass Worship events. These Mass events, held each night of the gathering, include praise songs, skits, videos, and a speaker.  During the day, everyone participates in activities in the Convention Center. These include listening to speakers on a variety of topics pertaining to youth, bands, games, service projects, and time to meet youth from around the country.

St. John is excited to have 39 youth and 8 adults attending the National Youth Gathering in Minnesota this summer. This group of 47 people have been meeting on a monthly basis since October. They have been reading Psalm 46 (the theme of the gathering), team building, connecting, fundraising, and serving. This group of 47 would love to have the support of the congregation as well. First, they could all use your prayers. Secondly, they will be doing some fund raising over the next couple of months. You can support them at the Chili Fest/Dessert Auction. Bake an amazing dessert to be auctioned off or bid on an amazing dessert. If you don’t feel like bidding on a dessert, you may make a free-will donation at the Bake Sale. They will be serving soup at the Soup Suppers on March 6th and 13th and will be providing Easter Breakfast on April 21st.

Some might be asking why NYG is important to these youth. Here is what Alana Hartley has to say about the youth gathering. Alana is a Senior at New Palestine High School and attended NYG in 2016 and is looking forward to Minnesota.

“NYG to me was something I will always remember. It was an experience that I cannot describe and one I hope to experience again. NYG was so fun because of going somewhere new and seeing thousands of people my age that wonder and ask the same things that I do. With having multiple jobs and school and trying to find answers to things that I alone cannot answer NYG brings me so much peace. When going to NYG this year I hope to make a ton of new memories, answer some of those hard questions, and strengthen my faith as much as I can before going to college and into the real world.”
