School Newsletter: February 21, 2023

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES
You are invited to join us for our Lenten Services, starting this Wednesday
for Ash Wednesday 4:30p Service in the Sanctuary or 6:30p Service in the Sanctuary

The Ash Wednesday meal will be hosted by the BOCCE and Women of the
Word and they will be serving Mexican.

Each week, Lenten Meals will be provided from 5p-6:15p in the Commons
followed by Lenten Services at 6:30p in the Sanctuary.

CHAPEL REMINDERS

This week’s 1st-8th Grade and Early Childhood Chapels will be led by Pastor Watt.

Our 3rd Quarter Chapel offering is going to Lutheran Special Ed Ministries.

2023-24 SCHOOL CHOICE AND SGO APPLICATIONS
An email was sent last week to all incoming K-8 th grade parents regarding applying for Choice and SGO Scholarships for next school year. If you are unsure of which scholarship to apply for, please contact Heidi Mielke.

BASKETBALL UPDATE
Our JV and Varsity Girls will host Holy Cross today. The JV games begin at 5:30, followed by the Varsity Game. Our boys will have the same schedule on Thursday. Be sure to join us both nights for 8th Grade Night.
 
  TEACHER QUIET LUNCH
PTL we will be hosting a lunch for our teachers on Friday, March 10th, and
could use your help with donations. Please click here to help provide items
for our teachers.
 
Students in grades 3-8 are invited to participate in Sci-Fest.

There will be 2 different competitions:

 
  • We will have an in-school competition with all students in grades 3-8 in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Challenge. Students will be given a set of materials to build something to complete a challenge. This will take place on Thursday, February 23rd in class.
 
  •  The second competition will be at Lutheran High School on Thursday, March 2nd at 6:00 PM. Winners of the classroom challenge will be invited to participate in this competition. More information will be sent out following the in-school.
  • Please take the time to fill out the online form to let teachers know which students are interested and able to compete in this competition.

ME AND MY GUY DANCE

A flyer was sent home with all female students to save the date for the Me and My Guy Dance on Friday. Feb. 24th. To sign up for the Me and My Guy Dance, click here.

If you would like to VOLUNTEER (help decorate, check guests in, serve snacks, take pictures, etc.) please click

Extended Care will be closing at 5:30pm on Friday, February 24th due to the Me & My Guy Dance. We ask that you please have your children picked up no later than 5:30. Thank you for your understanding.
 
FAITH AND FAMILY NIGHT WITH INDY FUEL! MARCH 17
Join your St. John family for an exciting night of Indy Fuel Hockey!

Your discounted $17 ticket price includes their All You Can Eat special with
unlimited hot dogs, burgers and popcorn, as well as the Slapshot Experience
on the ice after the game, where you can take a shot on the goal!

Please RSVP and pay in advance using THIS FORM. Please make your
reservation before March 10.

St. John is looking for a qualified adult to aide in first grade Monday through Fridays from 7:45 to about 11:15. This person would work closely with Miss Huske to help the first grade class, primarily in the areas of reading and math. The position is open immediately with the option for next year. This is an hourly position with no benefits. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact the school office.
 
We are in need of Substitute teachers. If you can help us out, either half days or full days, please contact Jeff Huntington or Heidi Mielke.
 
Our St. John Summer Camp is returning. It is available for 4 year olds through completed 4th grades. One of the best things about our summer camp is the flexibility to meet your family's needs. Rowan Dingledy was a student at St. John until she was unable to return after
